Change for Change’s Sake
By all accounts, the Sitka Chamber of Commerce has been killing it since assuming the contract for Destination Marketing for the community back in 2015. But that means little when those who like to stir the pot suggest a different approach should be considered.
Oh yes...let's try something new (despite the fact that the current approach is producing great results). Like...let's put the contract out to RFP.
And they do...and get one response from an out-of-state ad agency. Perfect....
And hey, they may well be great marketers...but Destination Marketing and Leadership is so much more than advertising. It's choreographing and leading a destination from the ground up. But clearly, the Sitka Council has yet to grasp this concept.
The Sitka Chamber declined to bid...and, after all this subterfuge, wouldn't you?
While I fear and feel for the Sitka businesses and workforce that will ultimately suffer from this folly...it should be entertaining to watch.
