I’m honored to be a member of the Advocacy Committee of Destinations International. Every couple weeks, we Zoom in together to discuss the issues of the day and the existential threats that face Destination Marketing professionals.

Every once in a while, a member of the Committee suggests a new way to explain what we do and why it is so vital to the Quality of Life for our communities. And one of those moments happened yesterday.

Heather Bagshaw of Warren County Tourism suggested connecting the need for destination marketing to binging on streaming shows. We’re all in for the time we’re binging…but then, the season ends and we’re off to the next show (or destination). Without constant marketing to remind us of the show (or destination) we so loved last season, we’ll never return to the show on which we initially binged because our heads will be turned by the next show…and the next…and the next.

Brilliant analogy.
