The Validation
Over the past 30 years, we've been churnin' and burnin' at breakneck pace here at DMOproz. And, while that has been supremely satisfying, it produced an unforced by-product. We rarely called in to check up with our clients on the progress against our recommendations (hey, padawan consultants? Don't do this.). We would often lament that we should do better, but the next assignment always called.
If you ever felt left in the wind after our work, we're sorry. We just figured you had this and you'd call if you need a hand. Our bad.
But, the work we did for the Quad Cities in 2007 to develop a Vision Plan for the community was one of those moments that made us sit up and realize that we've done some pretty stellar work over the decades. It was a decade later that, in responding to an RFP that asked for validation of our work that we went back to see what had happened with our 7 primary recommendations so we could prove to our prospective client that we knew what we were doing.
To say our mouths dropped when we learned that 6 of the 7 recommendations had been achieved or were in play would be an understatement (one was a regional wayfinding signage network). And the 7th? The Quad Cities' answer was cooler than our recommendation.
Now...don't go calling us, because we no longer do Vision Plan work. This is just one in the last few of this month's memories that makes us smile at the impact we have had...before we get back to regular programming.
