Still Won’t Be Enough

When Venice announced they were going to charge visitors to the city €5 a day in an attempt to slow mass tourism, most experts merely shook their heads in disbelief. How could anyone think that €5 would dissuade anyone.

And, of course, it didn't. Visitation was up again this year.

So, word is out that Venice will raise the fee next year to €10 a day...and the same thing will happen. Nothing.

Hey Venice? You really want to try and make a dent by taxing tourists? Try adding another zero.

Thanks to our friend George Tzougros of the Wisconsin Arts Board for the catch.
